EDSP 6644 Educating Exceptional Students Reflection

In this reflection, I will discuss my peer review paper as my artifact of choice. My peer review paper highlighted the topic of inclusion in physical education. In order to provide direction to this topic I posed the question, what do effective inclusion practices look like in the physical education environment? By forming an answer to this question, I was able to better understand strategies for improving the physical education environment for students with and without disabilities. This touches on Standard 4 Content Knowledge, which entails, “The teacher uses content area knowledge, learning standards, appropriate pedagogy and resources to design and deliver curricula and instruction to impact student learning.”  I believe that my peer review paper provided me with the opportunity to positively enhance and progress my teaching practice within my content specific area of health and fitness. As Lieberman et al. (2004) explains, “Quality inclusion produces benefits for all students, but inclusion can also produce negative effects if mishandled. The difference depends to a great extent on the environment the teacher creates” (p. 37). Which is why in my peer review paper, I was able to make the conclusions found in Figure 1. These conclusions were made in part of the readings and content found throughout this course.
